Secondary and Higher: An additional surcharge, called the "Secondary and Higher Education Cess on income- at the rate of 1% of income-tax and surcharge (not including the “Education Cess on Income-tax”) in all cases shall be levied.

B] Some Important Income Tax Benefits Available Under Various Plans Of Life Insurance Are Highlighted Below:

1) Deduction allowable from Income for payment of Life Insurance Premium (Sec. 80C).

(a) Life Insurance premia paid in order to effect or to keep in force an insurance on the life of the assessee or on the life of the spouse or any child of assessee & in the case of HUF, premium paid on the life of any member thereof, deduction allowed upto 20% of capital sum assured during any financial year.

(b) Contribution to deferred annuity Plans in order to effect or to keep in force a contract for deferred annuity, on his own life or the life of his spouse or any child of such individual, provided such contract does not contain a provision to exercise an option by the insured to receive a cash payment in lieu of the payment of annuity is eligible for deduction.

2) Jeevan Nidhi Plan & New Jeevan Suraksha - I Plan (U/s. 80CCC)

A deduction to an individual for any amount paid or deposited by him from his taxable income in the above annuity plans for receiving pension (from the fund set up by the Corporation under the Pension Scheme) is allowed.

NOTE: The premium can be paid upto Rs.1,00,000/- to avail deduction u/s.80C, 80CCC & 80CCD (80CCD- Deduction in respect of contribution to pension scheme of Central Government.). However, there is no sectoral cap i.e. the limit of Rs.1,00,000/- can be exhausted by paying premium under any of the said sections.

3) Investment under long-term infrastructure bonds notified by the Central Government. (Sec. 80CCF)

A deduction up to Rs. 20000/- is available to individuals and HUF for amount paid or deposited as subscription to long-term infrastructure bonds notified by the Central Government. This is in addition to Rs.1 lakh deduction available under section 80C.

4) Deduction under section 80D

1. Deduction allowable upto Rs.15,000/- if an amount is paid to keep in force an insurance on health of assessee or his family (i.e. Spouse & children)

2. Additional deduction upto Rs.15,000/- if an amount is paid to keep in force an insurance on health of parents

3. In case of HUF, deduction allowable upto Rs.15,000/- if an amount is paid to keep in force an insurance on health of any member of that HUF

Note: If the sum specified in (a) or (b) or (c) is paid to effect or keep in force an insurance on the health of any person specified therein who is a senior citizen, then the deduction available will be upto Rs.20,000/-, provided that such insurance is in accordance with the scheme framed by
a) the General Insurance Corporation of India as approved by the Central Government in this behalf or;
b) Any other insurer and approved by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority.

5) Jeevan Aadhar Plan (Sec.80DD) :

Deduction from total income upto Rs.50000/- allowable on amount deposited with LIC under Jeevan Aadhar Plan for maintenance of an handicapped dependent (Rs.1,00,000/- where handicapped dependent is suffering from severe disability)

6) Exemption in respect of commutation of pension under Jeevan Suraksha & Jeevan Nidhi Plans:

Under Section 10(10A) (iii) of the Income-tax Act, any payment received by way of commutations of pension out of the Jeevan Suraksha & Jeevan Nidhi Annuity plans is exempt from tax under clause (23AAB).

7) Income tax exemption on Maturity/Death Claims proceeds under Section 10(10D)

Under the provisions of section 10(10D) of the Income-tax Act, 1961, Maturity/Death claims proceeds of life insurance policy, including the sum allocated by way of bonus on such policy (other than amount to be refunded under Jeevan Aadhar Insurance Plan in case of handicapped dependent predeceases the individual or amount received under a Keyman Insurance Plan) is exempted from income-tax. However any sum (not including the premium paid by the assessee) received under an insurance policy issued on or after the 1st day of April, 2003 in respect of which the premium payable for any of the years during the term of the policy exceeds 20% of the actual capital sum assured will no longer be exempted under this section.

What is Chit Fund?

A Chit fund is a kind of savings scheme.

"Chit" means a transaction, by which the foreman enters into an agreement with a number of subscribers that every one of them shall subscribe a certain sum for a certain period and each subscriber in his turn as determined by lot or by auction, shall be entitled to a prized amount.

Example:

40 subscribers agree to subscribe an amount of Rs.2,500/- for 40 months i.e. for a total chit value of Rs.1,00,000/-, each subscriber will get his chit amount in his turn as determined by draw of lot or by auction. The duration also equals the number of subscribers, as there must be (not more or less) one subscriber to receive the price money every month. During auction all non-prized subscribers bid by allowing percentage of subscription to be forgone. The highest bidder i.e. who allows maximum percentage to subscribers is given the chit amount. The amount, foregone by the subscriber is distributed as dividend amongst all the subscribers in every draw, after deducting 5% commission/remuneration to be paid to the foreman of the company. Maximum bid is normally between 20% and 40% and the duration of chit is normally between 12 months and 50 months. In case there are more than one highest bidder in an auction, then draw of lots is made and chit amount given to the successful subscriber. Thus each member gets an opportunity to receive the prize amount once during the tenure of the scheme. All members contribute towards the periodic subscription till the end of the duration of the chit scheme.

These 40 subscribers constitute a ‘Chit Group’ and the Chit fund company can run many such groups. For each group approval of bye-laws and commencement certificate from the office of the Registrar, Chit Funds, is a must. The share of a subscriber in a chit is also known as ticket.

‘Foreman’ means a person who under the chit agreement is responsible for the conduct of the chit and includes any other person discharging the duties of the Foreman. Besides being an organizer, he is also a subscriber in every chit group. He is also entitled to obtain one chit amount into the chit group without deduction of the amount. This is to run the scheme smooth under all circumstances.

Home treatment for Asthma

The juice of one lemon, diluted in a glass of water and taken with meals, will bring good results.

Take five grams of gooseberry mixed with one tablespoon of honey every morning.

Boil a handful of drumstick leaves in 200 ml of water for five minutes. Add a little salt, pepper, and lime juice. Take this soup once daily.

A teaspoon of fresh ginger juice, mixed with a cup of fenugreek decoction and honey to taste, acts as a brilliant expectorant in cases of asthma. The decoction of fenugreek can be made by addition of one tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in a cupful of water. This remedy must be taken once in the morning and once in the evening.

Ten garlic cloves (lasuna or Allium sativum), boiled in 30 ml of milk, create an excellent medicine for the early stages of asthma. This mixture must he taken once each day by the patient. Steaming ginger tea with two minced garlic cloves in it, can also help to keep the trouble under control, and must be taken in the morning and evening.

Mix 1 tablespoon of honey and ½ tsp cinnamon powder and consume. This is an excellent home remedy for asthma.

In one cup of water soak one tablespoon of Fenugreek seeds overnight. Strain and add 1 tablespoon of Ginger juice and 1 tsp of honey to this. It has to be consumed twice daily.

Add a tsp of honey in a glass of hot water and have it in small sips before going to bed.

Boil eight to ten cloves of garlic and ginger in ½ cup of milk and consume it during night time.

Mustard Oil – It is considered as one of the most recommended asthma home remedy when a person is having an attack. It is performed by mixing some mustard oil with a little camphor and then massaging it over the chest of the person affected. With this the sufferer gets relief as it eases the breath intake and also makes respiratory passage clean.

Hold a pot or jug of honey under the nose and breath-in (inhale). The difficult respiration becomes easy and deep.

Eating fig fruit will drain the phlegm off.

Start taking lemon added food.

Take a teaspoon of Indian gooseberry powder. Mix with one tablespoon of honey. Take this every morning.

Take a teaspoon of bitter gourd root paste. Mix with a teaspoon of honey. Take this at night.

State Bank of India, invites on-line applications from Indian citizens for appointment in Clerical Cadre post in its Associate Banks. Before applying, Candidates should ensure that they fulfill the eligibility criteria for the post. Note: The percentage of marks in XII/ Diploma Course/ Graduate shall be arrived at by dividing the marks obtained by the candidate in all subjects by aggregate maximum marks of all subjects irrespective of optional/ additional subject studied. Similarly percentage of marks in Graduation shall be arrived at by dividing the marks in all subjects of course (both in Pass/Honours course) for all the years of the course.

5. Nationality / Citizenship:

1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories

(ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination/interview conducted by the Bank but on final selection, the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

6. Reservation for Persons with Disability (PWD):

Vacancies are reserved for Disabled (Physically Challenged) Persons under Section 33 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 (1 of 1996) as per government guidelines.

Dependents of Servicemen killed in Action: Servicemen killed in the following operations would be deemed to have been killed in action attributable to Military Service (a) war (b) warlike operations or border skirmishes either with Pakistan on cease fire line or any other country (c) Fighting against armed hostiles in a counter insurgency environment viz. Nagaland, Mizoram, etc. (d) Serving with peace-keeping mission abroad (e) Laying or clearance of mines including enemy mines as also mine sweeping operation between one month before and three months after conclusion of an operation (f) Frost-bite during actual operations or during the period specified by the Government (g) Dealing with agitating Para-Military forces personnel (h) IPKF personnel killed during the operations in Sri Lanka.

NOTE: 1) Candidates still serving in Defence and desirous of applying under Ex Servicemen category should submit a certificate from the competent authority to the effect that they would be released / retired on or before 30.06.2011 at the time of interview, and if they fail to report within this time their offer of appointment will be withdrawn. 2) Ex-Servicemen candidates who have already secured employment under the Central Government in Group C & D will be permitted the benefit of age relaxation as prescribed for Ex-Servicemen for securing another employment in a higher grade or cadre in Group ‘C’/ ‘D’ under the Central Government. However, such candidates will not be eligible for the benefits of reservation for Ex-Servicemen in Central Government jobs. 3) The Territorial Army Personnel will however be treated as Ex-Servicemen w.e.f. 15.11.1986. 4) An Ex-Serviceman who has once joined a Government job on the civil side after availing of the benefits given to him as an Ex-Serviceman for his re employment, his Ex-Serviceman status for the purpose of reemployment in Government ceases.

8. The blind candidates/low vision candidates and candidates who are locomotor impaired in both hands and both arms and candidates whose writing speed is affected by cerebral palsy can use own scribe at their cost during the written examination. In all such cases where a scribe is used, the following rules will apply:

i) The candidate will have to arrange his/her own scribe at his/her own cost.

ii) The academic qualification of the scribe should be one grade lower than the minimum stipulated eligibility criteria for the candidate.

iii) The scribe can be from any other academic discipline and should possess 60% or less marks in his stream subject to ii) above.

iv) Both the candidate as well as the scribe will have to give a suitable undertaking, and confirm that the scribe fulfils all the stipulated eligibility criteria for a scribe as mentioned above. Further, in case it later transpires that he/she did not fulfill any of the laid-down criteria or suppressed material facts, the candidature of the applicant will stand cancelled, irrespective of the result of the written test.

v) Such candidates who use a scribe shall be eligible for extra time of 20 minutes for every hour of the examination.

9. Probation period: Minimum period of 6 months. Before the probation period comes to an end, the performance of the newly recruited employees will be evaluated and the probation period of these employees whose performance fails to meet Bank’s expectation, may be extended.

10. Selection Procedure:

All eligible candidates should apply on-line before the last date for registration of application.

a. Final selection will be made on the basis of performance in the written test and interview taken together. The questions in objective tests, except for the test of General English, will be printed in bilingual i.e., English & Hindi.

b. The written test will be of Objective type consisting of (i) General Awareness

(ii) General English (iii) Quantitative Aptitude (iv) Reasoning Ability

(v) Marketing Aptitute / Computer Knowledge

There will be negative marks for the wrong answers in the Objective tests. Candidates will have to pass in each of the objective tests.

Candidates in the ratio of maximum 3 times the number of vacancies will be called for interview in the order of merit, subject to their having secured at least 40% overall of marks (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/XS) in (i), (ii), (iii), (iv) & (v) above besides obtaining qualifying marks in each objective type test. Bank reserves right to vary this cut off

NOTE:

i) Other detailed information regarding the written examination will be given in the ‘Acquaint Yourself’ booklet, which will be made available to the eligible candidates alongwith the call letter for the test.

ii) Interviews:

Depending upon the number of vacancies only certain number of candidates from amongst those who qualify by ranking high enough in the merit will be called for interview and / or proficiency test. The candidates, who qualify for interview must secure minimum marks of 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) to be considered for selection. Final selection will be made on the basis of candidate’s performance in the written test and interview taken together.

12. CALL LETTERS FOR WRITTEN EXAMINATION:

Candidates will be issued Call Letters at the correspondence address given by them in their on-line application, which will be sent by post.

While registering on-line application every candidate should indicate the name of the

Bank, the name of the state and the name and code number of the Centre where he/ she desires to take the examination. The candidate can apply for vacancies in one

Bank/State only and will have to appear for written test from a centre of that particular state. The candidates will appear for the written examination from a test centre for which he/she has applied at their own expenses and risks and the bank will not be responsible for any injury or losses etc. of any nature. NO CHANGE IN THE CHOICE OF

EXAMINATION CENTRE WILL BE ENTERTAINED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. BANK RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ADD OR DELETE ANY CENTRE OR ALTER EXAMINATION DATE AT ITS DISCRETION.

13. The associates Banks may arrange pre-examination training at certain centres for SC/ST/ Religious Minority Community and XS candidates in consonance with the guidelines issued by Government of India. Candidates belonging to the above categories who desire to avail themselves of such training at their own cost may indicate to that effect at the appropriate column in the application.

14. All expenses regarding travelling, boarding, lodging etc. will be borne by the candidates for attending the Pre-Examination Training programme at the concerned Pre-Examination Training Centre.

The payment of fees should be made up to 30.10.2010. This date will be same for the candidates belonging to far-flung areas.

Candidates should keep a copy of the Application printout and Payment Receipt with Deposit Journal No. for their record. An 'Acquaint Yourself' booklet will be sent to the candidates along with the call letter for written test. Original payment receipt will have to be submitted with the call letter at the time of written examination.

Candidates serving in Government/Quasi Government offices, Public Sector undertaking including Nationalised Banks and financial Institutions will be required to submit 'No Objection Certificate' from the employer at the time of interview, failing which their candidature may not be considered and travelling expenses, if any, otherwise admissible, will not be paid.

The reserved category candidate will have to produce his/her original caste certificate/ relevant certificates at the time of interview, failing which his/her candidature shall be cancelled and he/she will not be admitted for interview. OBC candidates, availing reservation will have to produce OBC certificate with Non-creamy layer clause issued on or before 01.12.2010 at the time of interview. In addition to OBC certificate, the candidates are required to submit a declaration for availing reservation of OBC on prescribed format at the time of interview. Candidates belonging to OBC category but coming in the ‘CREAMY LAYER’ are not entitled to OBC reservation and age relaxation. 17. General Information :
